Rose Garden Manor House B&B
Sitting in the shade of a 150 year old Elm tree with a view of Platberg Mountain and sleeping in one of Harrismith’s historical landmarks is a treat. Harrismith is the gem of the Free State, the gateway to the Drakensberg. You can fly fish on uncrowded waters, bird along forgotten back roads or just enjoy the peace and quiet of a country town.
The Rose Garden manor house was built in 1895 and is owned and run by David and Gill Weaver who have maintained the tradition of a classic B+B so you get to experience life with a South African family.
The Rose Garden Manor house is set in a large property with a tennis court. It is in the old part of town within easy walking distance to the CBD, golf course and restaurants.
There are three rooms with en-suite bathrooms; one inside the house and two garden cottages. The garden cottages have fully equipped kitchenettes with fridge, stove and microwave. The rooms are comfortably furnished with down duvets, electric blankets, heaters, tea and coffee facilities, TV’s with a choice of 5 channels and a selection of paintings by local artists. Access to the Internet is available and we offer limited conference facilities.
Children and pets are welcome.
The business is registered as a Birder Friendly Establishment with Birdlife South Africa. You can receive informed advice on the best birding routes and “specials” in the area. There is an extensive natural history library available to guests.
David has been hosting fly fishers for the last 7 years and offers boat hire on Sterkfontein dam for those in search of Yellowfish. Access to exclusive trout waters can be arranged. In flower season David can guide you to the best ‘flowering’ spots, and the best mountain walks.
David is also a very keen mountain biker and knows the best routes and the secret single tracks.
